Flowers at the York Garden Show

I had a great experience at the York Garden Show this past weekend. Claire and I painted in two different landscaped areas of the Expo Center. Many people stopped and looked at our work or talked to us. It was very good exposure for us, and we could even finish some great work, despite interrruptions. I hope to do it again next year.

Winter Abstraction

I know by now everybody is tired of snow. However, when I went out to paint in February I noticed that my paintings were becoming more abstract due to the limited palette of the landscape.
On the day I was painting, there were a lot of stripes in the sky. I assume those lines were made by clouds intersecting with the lines from airplanes. The result was an interesting, assymetrical grit of lines all over the sky. Plein Air painting can be a lot of fun even on a cold, sunny day.

Winter Landscape

Winter Landscape 1                                   Jan. 2011

On Sunday I had the chance to go out and paint the lovely winter landscape of Etters. I went to my favorite spot and stayed in the car. It got so warm that I had to take off my jacket. The sun just warmed me up and dried my paintings really fast on the dashboard.
I will show some of my new work at the Artist Market in Carlisle next month. The opening is from 4-6 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2011. Everybody is welcome. Hope to see you!
